Letter to Colleges: Dear Sir or Madam,This letter is being sent to schools across the country, and I pray that each considers it carefully and seriously. It is meant to suggest a possible method of contributing towards improving the world. I suggest requiring that your students acquire 10 Improvement credits to become eligible for graduation, and that these points can be accumulated starting in a student's freshman year of high school. Of course this would have to be gradually implemented over a period of several years, but it is a worthwhile effort. Improvement Credits can be earned upon completion of 2 requirements:1) Perform and keep proof of volunteer work that benefits this planet on any order of magnitude. Volunteer to: a) help the disabled/elderly b) improve the education or political system in one's home town or state c) spend summers doing something or other for the Peace Corps or UN d) help homeless or injured animals or people. e) through legislation/politicking or manual labor, improve the environment, (save the rainforest!) f) Fund raise for or donate your own money to any approved organization(s), \\$1000 = 1 credit. www.list.com..hehe g) Start and be committed to a BiGayLa-style organization in your college or high school, or a neighboring college or high school if yours already has one. h) Convince 10 people per credit (and have them mail in this downloadable form so that you did not simply get a signature from someone already convinced) to transfer ALL of their investments into environmentally/globally responsible funds. i) Be an education major, and sign a contract that you will teach in an area with a competent-teacher shortage for 5 years. 5 credits for US, 8 credits for doing a double major in a foreign language and serving this 5 year term in an impoverished nation. j) create written, flat, or 3 dimensional art depicting and promoting world peace, and get published, hung, or placed somewhere public. k) watch "Pay It Forward," and then help devise and implement a means of requiring 2 years of paid public service of every citizen (military, hospital, {extensive list here}) l) come up with 2 more worthy options for this list. 2)Write an essay justifying how many credits are deserved for each volunteer activity (besides those with more specific guidelines) and submit it to a committee for evaluation. If this is something that might possibly be implemented, please notify me by USPS or email and also contact any sister schools and local high schools to inform them of such. Below is the URL of a draft of a book I am collecting for, and expect to publish in X months. In it I would like to include a comprehensive list of colleges participating in this plan, so that any college bound person who is moved and motivated by the concept might consider your university a little more seriously. |
